Design Metrologist

The Opportunity: A Mechanical Engineering Graduate or HNC qualified Engineer / Technician will thrive in this interesting role using your existing Mechanical Design skills whilst developing an additional understanding of Metrology. Working within a leading aerospace and advanced‑manufacturing business, the Design Metrologist joins an existing team during an exciting period of growth. The role includes using 3D CAD software to create engineering models and technical drawings, carrying out the dimensional inspection of components, and designing prototype models for 3D printing to support inspection and manufacturing processes. Really varied role, involving both office and hands on engineering work.

The Role

  • Using 3D CAD software to interrogate models and design part marking templates and fixturing for part inspection.
  • Dimensional inspection of products and tooling with the production of FAI reports.
  • Programming automated inspection equipment such as Coordinate Measuring Machines and structured light systems.
  • Applying first principles inspection methods and use of standard measurement equipment.
  • Dimensional calibration of measurement equipment.

Preferred Skills

  • Mechanical Engineering / Automation / Metrology Degree or equivalent preferable, although a Higher National Certificate level in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) will be considered.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD Design.
  • An understanding of metrology or a keen interest in learning the role of a Metrology Engineer.

Working Hours

8.00am-4.00pm Monday to Friday

Associated Benefits

Competitive salary of £37-39,700 depending on your experience and qualifications as graduates AND highly experienced candidates will be considered. Day working (Mon-Fri) and a range of benefits including company bonus and an excellent pension scheme and 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays. Progression is encouraged, as is professional development.
