An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Aerospace Buyer to join a leading helicopter manufacturer based in Yeovil on a long-term temporary basis. This role is critical to ensuring the continued performance, productivity, and output of the business through effective procurement and supplier management activities. This position would suit a highly organised Buyer with previous aerospace, aviation, engineering, or manufacturing procurement experience who is confident working within fast-paced supply chain environments and SAP systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing procurement activities as a Buyer for mechanical hardware components
- Raising purchase orders (POs) against Long Term Agreements (LTAs)
- Creating and maintaining approved vendor lists
- Sending Requests for Quotation (RFQs) against SAP requisitions and preparing supplier selection reports
- Raising and processing purchase orders within SAP
- Requesting and issuing technical data including:
- 2D drawings
- 3D models
- Technical specifications
- Supporting invoice clearance and resolving invoice queries
- Managing part country of origin and product classification documentation
- Handling QN (Quality Notification) management activities
- Supporting supplier pre-qualification and qualification processes
- Issuing quotation requests for AFP/RFQs and uploading supplier responses into SAP
- Liaising closely with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure material availability and supplier performance
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience working as a Buyer, Procurement Officer, Supply Chain Coordinator, or Purchasing Specialist within the aerospace, aviation, defence, engineering, or manufacturing sectors
- Strong understanding of aerospace procurement processes and supplier management
- Experience raising RFQs, purchase orders, and supplier selection documentation
- Understanding of supplier qualification and quality processes
- Experience managing invoice queries and supplier performance issues
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Knowledge of import/export compliance, country of origin, and product classification would be advantageous
Desirable Experience
- Aerospace or helicopter manufacturing background
- Experience purchasing mechanical hardware or engineering components is desirable
- Proficient in SAP procurement systems
- Knowledge of technical drawings, engineering specifications, and manufacturing documentation
- Experience working with Long Term Agreements (LTAs)
- Understanding of quality notifications (QNs)
- CIPS qualification or working towards CIPS
- Experience within regulated manufacturing environments
