Bristol City Council\’s Children Residential Service is offering a fantastic opportunity to join our team as a Senior Residential Child Care Worker, providing therapeutic care experiences for children with complex needs. Initially, this would be on a fixed term basis and would therefore be a good opportunity for someone to experience a leadership role within a children\’s home. There may be an option of this becoming permanent with the continued growth of the service.

At Bristol City Council, we\’ve redefined our approach to children\’s residential care. By transitioning to smaller homes for 2 to 3 children, we provide personalised care that better matches placements and creates a homely environment where children feel safe, loved, and nurtured. Our trauma-informed approach ensures we understand and cater to each child\’s unique needs, empowering them to thrive.

We serve children up to 18 years old with complex needs, including SEMH needs, learning difficulties, and challenging behaviour. If you share our passion for working with children who have faced significant challenges, we want to hear from you.

Who are we looking for?

We\’re seeking individuals who share our passion for working with children who have faced challenges early in life. Our ideal candidates are positive, reflective, resilient, and non-punitive and committed to upholding principles from PACE in their caregiving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervisory Role: Support the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager by supervising staff and contributing to the management team.
  • Therapeutic Care: Provide a therapeutic care experience within smaller children\’s homes.
  • Complex Needs: Work with children up to 18 years old with complex needs, including SEMH needs, learning difficulties, and challenging behaviour.
  • Rota based shifts: You will need to be able to work shifts on a rota basis, to include nights, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays . ( In addition to the basic pay allowances you will be paid for shift work, sleep-in duties, and for working on Bank Holidays).
