Move-on Officer

Full-Time No home office possible
B

Position

Full Time, Fixed Term to cover maternity leave.

Location

Based at 100 Temple Street and working with households across Bristol.

Service Overview

The Housing Options Service is recruiting to fill a pivotal role to cover maternity leave. We have recently redesigned our service and invested in it to:

  • Increase our success in preventing homelessness.
  • End our use of hotels and shared temporary accommodation for families.
  • Improve move‑on from temporary accommodation.
  • Reduce our use of and spend on temporary accommodation.

The Move On Team was established in early 2025 and includes 7 Move On Officers, Housing Support Register experts, a Priority Move On Scheme function, and a Team Leader who will supervise your work and the development of the team.

You will manage a caseload of households, working directly with them to provide face‑to‑face, telephone and written support, information, advice and encouragement to ensure that they have active move‑on plans and that their Personal Housing Plans are updated and actioned until successful move‑on is achieved.

In this role you will identify solutions for households with low incomes and/or debts, aiming to reduce or remove these barriers to move‑on. Another area of focus will be providing clear advice about the risk of refusing accommodation offers, the limitations of rehousing via the council’s Choice‑Based Lettings Scheme, and alternatives such as private renting and options outside of Bristol.

As part of a team, you will build strong relationships with a range of external services, gather collective knowledge and apply it to maximise successful move‑ons and tenancy sustainment. Internally, the Move On Team is a close ally of the Homelessness Prevention, Emergency Accommodation and Private Renting Teams.

We very much welcome your interest and application for this post.

Please note that this role is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.
