About Us

Bristol City Council’s Energy Supply Team is part of the Council’s Client Function, which oversees the delivery of the ambitious Bristol City Leap partnership, a joint venture between the Council and Ameresco Ltd () to support Bristol in becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

The Energy Supply team manages the supply of electricity, gas, water, and heat to Council buildings – everything from offices and libraries to schools and housing blocks. We also support the management of the Council’s own renewable energy assets, including our wind turbines, solar farm, and biomass systems.

We are now looking for an organised and proactive person to join our friendly and forward-thinking team within the Council, helping to deliver one of Bristol’s most ambitious climate programmes.

What will I be doing?

This is a varied role with a mix of responsibilities – no two days will be the same.

Your key duties will include:

  • Providing admin support to the Head of Service – managing calendars, arranging meetings, and helping the team stay organised
  • Helping manage the Council’s energy supplies – including checking utility bills, liaising with suppliers and commercial customers, and processing invoices
  • Keeping records and databases up to date with accurate and timely information
  • Visiting Council sites across Bristol to collect meter readings
  • Supporting the City Leap programme – helping prepare reports and maintain project documentation
  • Responding to queries from internal teams and external stakeholders

What do I need to have?

You don’t need to be an expert in energy to apply. If you\’re organised, proactive, and keen to support Bristol’s climate goals, we’d love to hear from you.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is confident working with numbers and data
  • Can communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and face-to-face
  • Is organised, thorough, and pays close attention to detail

It would be useful (but not essential) if you also have:

  • Any experience organising meetings and taking notes
  • Some familiarity with collecting, analysing, and presenting data
  • Any experience in working with suppliers, contractors, or customers

You should be comfortable using standard office software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and email. Full training will be provided on our internal IT systems.

Some tasks will involve visiting Council sites and accessing areas such as plant or meter rooms, so you’ll need to be comfortable working in enclosed spaces and happy to travel across the city. A driving licence is not essential but could be helpful.

Why Bristol City Council?

At Bristol City Council, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high-profile organisation. For the majority of our roles hybrid working arrangements are available, giving teams the opportunity to work in a way that suits them, balancing service need and individual choice – mixing both home and office working.

Join us and you will receive membership of the Local Government Pension scheme, and a generous annual leave allowance. In addition, you will be working in a supportive environment where you will have the chance to make Bristol a better place and contribute to its future.
