Fixed Term for 12 months, Part Time 28 hours (9am to 4pm x four days per week). Are you passionate about supporting young adults and confident to deliver training to groups of mixed abilities? Do you have the confidence and empathy to deliver engaging, hands-on courses in a welcoming, inclusive environment?

An exciting opportunity is available for an Employability Course Tutor to deliver a series of four-week courses for young adults (aged 17–21) which will help them build confidence, gain practical skills, and take steps towards work, volunteering, or further learning. This role is ideal for a qualified tutor with a background in adult education and would suit someone who understands how to work flexibly and sensitively with young adults from a wide range of backgrounds.

About the Role

This is more than just a teaching job. You’ll be working as part of the Community Learning and South Bristol Youth Guarantee project team to support young adults to explore their career and education options whilst building their self-belief and sense of achievement.

You Will

  • Deliver a series of four-week employability courses (20 hours per week) using a pre-agreed scheme of works which can be tailored to meet learners’ needs
  • Embed inclusive practice, digital tools and good safeguarding awareness into your teaching
  • Promote progression—working with the participant career coach to support learners to take further steps into learning, volunteering or employment
  • Set clear expectations, model practical skills, and create a safe space for learners to ask questions and practice
  • Work closely with the Youth Guarantee team, a Learning Support Assistant, support staff and partner organisations

About The Learners

Our learners are young adults who may:

  • Have few or no formal qualifications
  • Be unemployed or not in education, employment or training (NEET)
  • Face multiple and complex barriers to work
  • Have faced mental health challenges, trauma, addiction, or displacement
  • Speak English as an additional language
  • Need a welcoming space to build confidence and community

What You’ll Need

We welcome people from all backgrounds, especially if you bring lived experience or insight into the challenges our learners face. You’ll need:

  • A recognised teaching qualification (minimum Level 3, such as PTLLS/AET)
  • Confidence using digital tools and systems for teaching and communication
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • A calm, positive and inclusive approach to working with people
  • Awareness of trauma-informed practice, safeguarding, equality and health & safety

What is the South Bristol Youth Guarantee?

The South Bristol Youth Guarantee is part of a national trailblazer which aims to support young people aged 17 to 21 who are currently unemployed or not engaged in education or training. The program offers one-to-one job coaching, a four-week employability programme, work tasters and functional skills support to help young adults gain employment or further education opportunities. Important Information

Employability courses are delivered from two locations across South Bristol. The role being advertised is for course delivery in Hartcliffe. The course is delivered Mon, Tue, Thurs and Friday (9am to 4pm) for four weeks, followed by a planning week when additional 121 student support may also be required.
