The Engineering Design Team is looking for experienced Highway Engineers to help transform Bristol into a low-carbon, sustainable city in response to the climate emergency.

What Will You Be Doing?

You’ll be part of a friendly and enthusiastic team, contributing to the design of innovative urban transport and public realm projects that promote healthier and more efficient travel across the city.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the delivery of major highway projects from concept through to completion.
  • Collaborating with Engineering Technicians and Assistant Engineers to bring designs to life.
  • Supporting the development of active travel infrastructure, bus priority schemes, and public realm improvements.
  • You’ll join us at a career grade that reflects your qualifications and experience. We’ll support you in achieving professional accreditation and encourage further training to help you progress.


    What Do You Need to Have?

    We’re looking for someone who is:

  • A positive and collaborative team player.
  • Experienced in the design and delivery of highway projects.
  • Knowledgeable about UK highways and traffic design guidance.
  • It’s a plus if you have:

  • Experience with active travel schemes, highway drainage design (including SUDS), and contract documentation.
  • A track record of project managing NEC4 construction contracts.
  • Proficiency in digital design tools, document preparation, and project programming and the ability to guide others in their use.
