An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Bristol City Council's Corporate Landlord team as a Facilities Assistant.

Working as part of a wider facilities team and reporting to a Facilities Team Leader, you will help ensure our buildings are safe, compliant, secure, welcoming and well maintained.

These roles support a varied portfolio of sites across the city.

One post will be primarily based at M Shed, while the mobile post will work across multiple locations, with a particular focus on supporting the Statutory Registration Service sites, including Bristol Registry Office, Avon Coroner's Court and Flax Bourton Public and Forensic Mortuary, alongside M Shed, Bristol Museum & Art Gallery and the Historic Houses.

Both roles form part of a wider team and may be required to provide support across other sites to meet operational needs.

There may also be opportunities for additional hours and overtime, particularly to support projects, events and annual leave cover and operational requirements across the estate.

This is a practical and varied role combining facilities management, building maintenance, health and safety compliance, contractor supervision and customer service across some of Bristol's most significant public and heritage buildings.

About the role

You will

  • Support the day-to-day operation of assigned buildings, ensuring they remain safe, compliant and operational.
  • Open and close buildings and respond to building-related issues as they arise.
  • Undertake routine health and safety, compliance and security checks.
  • Carry out a range of practical maintenance and repair tasks, including painting, decorating and other general building maintenance activities.
  • Facilitate contractor visits and help ensure works are completed safely and to a high standard.
  • Support the movement, installation and relocation of furniture, equipment, exhibits and other assets.
  • Assist with cleaning, housekeeping and presentation standards across buildings.
  • Support emergency procedures and play an active role in incident response and evacuations when required.
  • Build positive relationships with building users, contractors and colleagues.
  • Travel regularly between sites as part of the role, using shared service vehicles available for business use.

This may include transporting equipment, furniture, exhibits, supplies and other assets between locations.

  • Undertake training and development relevant to the role, with opportunities to gain specialist skills and certifications such as IPAF, PASMA and other relevant qualifications.

About you

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate

  • Knowledge and experience of undertaking building maintenance, repairs or practical facilities management activities.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • The ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors and building users.
  • A practical approach to work.
  • A current valid driving licence.

It would be advantageous if you have

  • A recognised Health and Safety qualification.
  • Experience of working in cultural, heritage or public-access buildings.
  • Experience of working with listed or historic buildings.
  • Experience of moving and handling furniture, equipment or specialist items.
