Role 1: Full Time, Permanent - Night Shift. Working a 4 on, 4 off night shift pattern. 19:30-07:30, 11 hours, 1 hour unpaid break. Including weekends and bank holidays. Night time enhancement between 22:00-06:00 on top of salary.
Role 2: Full Time, Permanent - Day Shift. Working a 2,2,3 shift pattern. 07:30-19:30. Week 1: Working Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Week 2: Working Wednesday and Thursday. Including weekends and bank holidays.

Do you want to increase your income and free up time in your day by working overnight? If so, and you are reliable, hard working, caring and willing to learn new skills, this exciting post is for you. You would be working with a close knit team in Bristol’s state of the art, 24/7/365 Operations Centre. This is a multifunctional role that requires the post holder to join a supportive shift team and undertake a variety of different tasks, all of which require the ability to build strong and supportive customer relationships.
You can expect to spend the majority of your time:
- Responding to Telecare alarm activations and talking to vulnerable clients to reassure them, understand why they have activated their alarm and arrange an appropriate response, either by alerting their families or carers or, if necessary, calling for emergency medical assistance.
- Managing out of hours calls to the Council and dispatching emergency housing repair teams to Council tenants with problems that cannot wait till usual working hours and delivering concierge services.
- Monitoring lone working, security and intruder alarms for a range of services and buildings and taking appropriate actions following an alarm activation.
- Supporting the smooth running of traffic in the city by monitoring bus lanes, car parks and taxi ranks.
- Monitoring CCTV and radio systems to support the delivery of community safety and crime reduction initiatives and a safe night time economy.
- Supporting the coordination of the response to emergencies and incidents that may occur.
To ensure you have the skills and knowledge to undertake these tasks there is a detailed and thorough training and induction period as well as ongoing training and professional development. The role involves working with a small team to provide critical Council services to the city, city partners and citizens on a 24/7 basis, managing sensitive information and supporting vulnerable people.
Requirements: The successful candidate must pass Police vetting (NPPV 2) and an Enhanced DBS Check. We advise all potential candidates to find out more about the NPPV2 vetting before applying for the post.
