Overview

In this role you will lead Bristol’s safeguarding adults front door and shape the future of the service. You will guide screening, triage and escalation decisions under section 42 of the Care Act 2014, ensuring timely, proportionate and person-centred responses. You’ll implement a new operating model, improve decision timeliness, and foster a supportive, high-performing team culture across partner services. This is a strategic, collaborative leadership position with a meaningful impact on adults and professionals accessing safeguarding support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the screening and triage of new safeguarding concerns
  • Directly manage Senior Practitioners and oversee teams making section 42 decisions
  • Shape and embed the new triage structure and operating model
  • Improve timeliness and consistency of decision-making
  • Use performance data to identify pressures and drive improvements
  • Balance demand, capacity, risk and practitioner wellbeing
  • Foster a positive, inclusive team culture
  • Strengthen pathways to preventative and alternative support when criteria are not met

Key requirements

  • Social Work England registered Social Worker
  • substantial safeguarding adults experience
  • ability to meet Enhanced DBS check requirements
  • leadership capability for management role or potential to step into management
  • calm, visible leadership in a busy service
  • clear, constructive communication
  • builds effective working relationships
  • Care Act 2014 knowledge
