An opportunity has arisen for someone to join Bristol City Council as a Full Time Highway Technical Support Officer within the Highway Maintenance and Asset Team. You will join a vibrant and fulfilling working environment and work as part of a friendly and enthusiastic team in delivering services to colleagues, the public and elected members in accordance with the Council’s core values and the key performance indicators for the Highway Maintenance and Asset Team.

What will I be doing?

In this varied role, you will support permitting work across the highway network, working closely with contractors and internal teams such as Network Management to help ensure works are booked, coordinated effectively and managed in a way that minimises disruption to road users and the public. You will respond to queries, liaise with stakeholders and help support the smooth and timely delivery of highway works. You will also provide a wide range of technical and administrative support across the Highway Service. This will include managing correspondence and enquiries, processing applications, permits and licences, producing invoices, maintaining accurate records and working with teams across the service including Highway Maintenance, Highway Electrical Assets, Structures and Network Management. This is an excellent opportunity to build broad experience in a busy and important service area. The role is varied and you will receive a thorough introduction of the work required to achieve the goals and targets of the Service.

What do I need to have?

  • The role would suit an individual who thrives on responsibility, continuous performance improvement and customer focus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to respond to enquiries and initiate/reply to correspondence.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise a busy workload and work to deadlines.
  • Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications or equivalent including Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer.
  • Have a willingness to learn new applications and technology.
