Overview
In this role you will provide legal advice, support and advocacy to the Council, focusing on child protection matters. You’ll work closely with Bristol City Council Children’s Services to safeguard vulnerable children and meet legal duties. The position offers a varied, intellectually challenging caseload and opportunities to shape policy and decision-making in a supportive, diverse team. You will contribute to the council’s mission to ensure every child belongs and has the best start in life, while developing professionally in a high-profile environment.

Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and advocacy to the Council and Children’s Services
- Undertake all types of child protection legal work
- Advise and support the Children’s Services Department to meet legal duties
- Handle pre-proceedings cases and court applications (Care/Supervision orders, Deprivation of Liberty, Secure Accommodation orders)
- Address orders such as FGM Protection orders, Forced Marriage Protection orders, Placement and Adoption orders
- Apply risk management and provide issue-focused, client-centered solutions
- Maintain professional and accurate service delivery and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Represent the Council in court and negotiations as required
