The Custodial Services Worker is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment within assigned facilities. This role performs routine cleaning, sanitation, and basic maintenance tasks to ensure buildings are orderly, functional, and welcoming for employees, visitors, and customers.

This position will report to Norfolk Naval Shipyard and may occasionally require night or weekend work.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, offices, hallways and common areas
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust floors and surfaces
• Empty trash and recycling bins and dispose of waste properly
• Clean windows, mirrors, glass surfaces, and fixtures
• Restock restroom and facility supplies (soap, paper towels, tissue, etc.)
• Perform routine floor care such as vacuuming, buffing, and spot cleaning
• Perform scheduled floor maintenance such as stripping and waxing
• Perform scheduled carpet maintenance such as shampoo and extraction cleaning
• Follow established cleaning schedules and checklists
• Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies
• Report maintenance issues, damages, or safety concerns promptly
• Assist with event setup/cleanup and special projects as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous commercial custodial or janitorial experience
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safe handling procedures
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment (vacuum, floor buffer, auto scrubber, etc.)

Additional Qualifying Factors

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening (post accepted offer) and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.

If required, must properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times including but not limited to: hard hats, steel toed boots, eye protection, respiratory protection, and hearing protection. Must always maintain a constant state of mental alertness.

Working Conditions

Job is performed in a combination of office and outdoor site locations. The office setting includes exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse. Outdoor settings include walking, driving, and carrying supplies throughout all seasons with exposure to heat and cold conditions, and potentially wildlife. The job is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and loud noise.
