Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a GP at Broadmead Medical Centre, you will be expected to perform the ten key functions of a doctor within a primary care setting:

  • Primary Care – Diagnosing and treating various medical conditions, both acute and chronic, in patients of all ages.
  • Preventative Care - Conducting routine check-ups, screenings, and immunizations to prevent illnesses and promote overall health.
  • Health promotion- Educating patients about healthy lifestyle choices, including diet, exercise, and disease prevention.
  • Managing Chronic Conditions- Monitoring and managing ongoing health issues such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma alongside our amazing team of LTC nurses.
  • Referral and coordination- Referring patients to specialists and coordinating care among multiple healthcare providers.
  • Prescribing Medications - Prescribing medications, interpreting test results, and providing medical advice.
  • Urgent Care – Providing initial assessment and stabilisation for emergency situations before referring to specialised care.
  • Medical Record keeping- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records for each patient.

Additionally, you may take on specific responsibilities in agreed clinical areas that interest you, to support QOF and other enhanced services. You will also be expected to attend regular and relevant practice meetings. Provide mentorship and support to more junior or associated colleagues and generally act as a good team player.

  • Qualifications and Training
    • Full registration with the GMC
    • Fully trained GP with JCTGP vocational training certificate
    • Medical Degree (MBBS, MBChB or equivalent)
    • Experience of delivering QOF
    • RCGP part 1 or experience in drugs substance use
    • Experience in Primary Care and General Practice settings
    • A desire to work within hard to reach or marginalised groups
    • Experience of working in teams and able to promote a team spirit
    • Knowledge of national and local agendas in respect of primary care commissioning, and intermediate and urgent care agendas
    • Familiarity with EMIS
    • GP trainer, Clinical Supervision or Mentoring certificate
    • Working with a patient clinical triage models such as Accurx

    • Excellent diagnostic skills, with ability to assess and manage a wide variety of patient presentations
    • Effective patient communication and history taking
    • Knowledge of current clinical guidelines and evidence-based practice
