We're working with an established technology business that is looking to hire a

Tech Lead to help shape the technical direction of a modern, customer-facing platform.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll combine technical decision-making, mentoring and architecture with the opportunity to remain close to the code.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced senior engineer who has progressed into technical leadership but still enjoys solving complex engineering challenges.

The Role

As Tech Lead, you'll provide technical leadership across a multidisciplinary engineering team, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable and delivered to a high standard.

You'll work closely with Product, Engineering and Architecture teams to scope new features, review designs and guide implementation, while maintaining engineering best practices across both application and middleware services.

The environment is modern and collaborative, with a strong emphasis on quality engineering, continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical delivery across a cross-functional engineering team.
  • Conduct code reviews across application and middleware repositories, maintaining high standards of quality and consistency.
  • Scope and design new technical features, breaking larger initiatives into deliverable technical tasks.
  • Contribute to architectural discussions and review High Level Designs (HLDs).
  • Provide technical guidance across customer-facing features, platform enhancements and architectural improvements.
  • Support the implementation of features such as customer account functionality, platform migrations and mobile push notifications.
  • Champion engineering best practices around testing, code quality, CI/CD and peer review.
  • Mentor and support software engineers, helping the team develop technically.
  • Remain hands-on where appropriate, contributing code to key initiatives.

About You

You'll be an experienced Technical Lead or Senior Software Engineer ready to step into a leadership role, with broad full-stack engineering experience and an interest in modern mobile technologies.

You'll be comfortable working across multiple technologies rather than specializing in a single language, and you'll enjoy helping teams solve complex technical problems.

We're looking for someone with experience of

  • Designing scalable distributed systems and APIs.
  • Technical architecture and solution design.
  • Code reviews, mentoring and engineering leadership.

A background working with mobile platforms is important for this role.

Experience with Android and/or i OS development is highly desirable, whether through native development (Kotlin/Swift) or modern cross-platform frameworks such as React Native or Flutter.

You don't need to be a dedicated mobile engineer, but you should be comfortable leading technical discussions involving mobile applications and collaborating across mobile and backend teams.

  • What's on Offer
  • Hybrid working from the Leeds office.
  • Opportunity to shape technical direction across a growing engineering function.
  • Hands‑on leadership role with real architectural influence.
  • Collaborative engineering culture with modern cloud technologies and a varied technical stack.
