The opportunity: Brinkworth makes premium access documentaries and is now building an owned digital business on top of that work, including a major talent-led venture launching this year. We are looking for a Producer who understands digital audiences and can make original YouTube series that keep people interested episode by episode. The Producer takes ideas from development to delivery, working closely with talent, contributors, the Channel Manager and the Video Editor.
The role is digital-first, with the opportunity to work on long-form documentary series for broadcasters and streamers, from access and set-up through shoot, edit and delivery, where the work requires it.
Role in brief: Develop and produce original digital series that build audience habit, work across long-form broadcast and streaming projects where required, and carry ideas between the two.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and produce original digital series
- Develop and produce original series for Brinkworth's owned YouTube channels, from format and pilot through to returning series that build audience habit.
- Take ideas from development to delivery, working closely with talent, contributors, the Channel Manager and the Video Editor.
- Design formats that are native to YouTube: hooks, cold opens, pace, episode length and structure built for retention from the outset, not cut down from a broadcast master.
- Write and shape scripts, edit-produce, and give clear, decisive notes.
- Where a production involves self-shooting, communicate and liaise with filming department, as this work also sits with them.
- Plan and manage schedules and small teams for each production.
- Pitch ideas that could start on YouTube and grow into commissions.
- Work with talent, contributors and access
- Work with on-screen talent on the talent-led venture, shaping their voice and presence for digital audiences.
- Run development conversations with talent and their agents, alongside the Channel Manager and Digital Director.
- Carry out in-depth research on stories, shape the beats of the content and arrange access, ensuring legal and platform compliance along the way.
- Secure access and look after contributors with care, including in sensitive situations.
- Liaise with the Casting Director & Contributor Lead throughout, agreeing who is best placed to take on specific access and contributor tasks so there is no crossover with Casting & Access dept.
- Work to the contributor welfare and duty-of-care standard set by the Casting Director & Contributor Lead.
- Package, release and learn from performance
- Plan packaging with the Channel Manager before the shoot, not after: titles, thumbnails, release plans and test ideas.
- Use performance data to decide what to make next, and bring a clear recommendation.
- Guide the Video Editor on Shorts, social cutdowns and promotional assets from your productions, respecting our brand standards and clear creative ownership.
- Identify formats with brand partnership or sponsorship potential.
- Deliver across digital and long-form
- Work on documentary series for broadcasters and streamers where required, from access and setup through shoot, edit and delivery.
- Spot where broadcast projects can extend into digital series.
- On long-form work, work with the relevant Series Lead, who holds the creative standard for the series.
- Own compliance and sign-off on both sides: broadcaster and Ofcom requirements on linear, YouTube Community Guidelines and advertiser-friendly policies on digital.
Experience and qualities
- A track record producing brilliant long-form video content.
- A storytelling instinct that works at every length, and an understanding of how to grab and keep an audience.
- Sound editorial judgement and experience making calls on sensitive material.
- Experience working with on-screen talent and contributors.
- Confidence managing schedules and small teams.
- Highly organised, curious and low-ego.
- Advantageous: self-shooting and editing ability.
- Advantageous: experience of sensitive or legally sensitive material, including anonymisation, redaction and safeguarding.
- Advantageous: media law and Ofcom knowledge, and working knowledge of rights, releases, archive and music clearance, particularly where digital and broadcast rights differ.
- Advantageous: experience of the creator economy or branded content.
