We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our growing school, and our successful science team at a time of curriculum innovation – be part of it! This is a permanent, full-time post commencing September 2026. Whether you are an ECT or an experienced teacher, you will enjoy working in this supportive department where your continuing professional development is championed.
- Do you passionately believe that all young people need to be scientifically literate to navigate the world around them?
- Can you inspire students to have an enquiring scientific mind?
- Are you ambitious for yourself and others to excel?
If the answer to all three of these is 'yes' and you are a skilled teacher of science who is ambitious for every single child who enters your laboratory, then please read on...
You will be joining a team of nine science teachers, two of whom are ECTs, and seven who are very experienced. In order to balance the specialisms in our team, it is essential that you can confidently teach Physics at KS4 and it would be desirable for you to be able to teach Physics A-Level, whether that is through a degree specialism, or previous experience. The department is well led, and leadership is distributed between the Head of Department and two Key Stage Co-ordinators.
Continued learning of science at KS5 is strong, an indicator of the engagement in learning instilled in students throughout KS3 and KS4. Our sixth form, Cotswold Edge, serves the needs of students locally. ‘A’ Level Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Psychology are all available, complemented by the Level 3 Applied Science qualification. As our teaching commitment at KS5 grows, the need to build capacity in our KS5 teaching team is increasing.
At KS4, students study either Combined Science (AQA Trilogy) or GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics (all AQA). In addition, residential science-focused visits regularly take place, designed to enrich students’ experiences further; this academic year, students will travel to Iceland.
The KS3 curriculum prepares students for their further study of science by emphasising practical and investigative approaches to learning, setting students' acquired knowledge in a real-world context. The department's goal is for all students to understand the relevance of their science learning to their everyday lives, and for the majority to want to pursue their science learning further.
The department is well-resourced, and students' independent learning is promoted. Students have access to online resources such as Tassomai and OUP’s Kerboodle. We have a fantastic team of knowledgeable and supportive Technicians who support students' learning within the department.
In return for your hard work, passion and commitment we offer:
- Bespoke CPD, whether you are an ECT, or an experienced teacher - we firmly believe 'better never stops';
- A supportive team of departmental colleagues who involve themselves fully in the pastoral and social life of the school;
- The opportunity to join a committed team of staff who believe that teaching is a great profession, and who challenge each other to excel.
Should you decide that you would like to join the staff team here at Brimsham, challenging and supporting our enthusiastic learners, then we look forward to reading your completed application form. Within your supporting statement, in the ‘Skills, abilities, knowledge, and experience’ section, please address the following points:
- How you use formative feedback in assessing students’ knowledge and understanding, and as a tool to provide the next steps for them to progress.
- How you facilitate active participation to support students in accessing the curriculum, and how you maximise the impact of this in lessons.
- The role you play, as a teacher, in facilitating students’ resilience and independence.
Completed applications are to be received no later than 9.00 a.m. on Monday 9th February, with a view to interview on Friday 13th February; however, applications will be processed as they are received and therefore applicants are encouraged to apply early.
If you are interested and would like to discuss the post further or visit the school, please contact Adam Titley (Head of Science) who will be delighted to hear from you.
We value diversity in our workforce and applications are encouraged from all sections of the community regardless of gender, gender identity, ethnic origin, disability, age or sexual orientation. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students and the successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
