Head of Legal / Legal Counsel (Qualified Solicitor), Housing and Property
Location: West London (W10). Hybrid, with three days a week in the office preferred
Type: Permanent, full time. A four day week can be considered for the right person

The opportunity:
Our client is an established London housing provider that works alongside local authorities to provide temporary and longer term accommodation. It has been trading for around 20 years and has been backed by private equity since 2021, yet it still runs like a founder led business: hands on, decisive and commercial.
The business is now growing through acquisition and needs a Legal Counsel to take full ownership of the legal function. You will advise the CEO and the board directly, give pragmatic commercial advice rather than black letter law, and play a real part in deals as the business scales.
The role:
Your time will be split roughly evenly across three areas:
- Possession and eviction: manage cases from notice through to court hearings.
- Disrepair: handle claims and defend litigation, working with insurers and the property teams.
- Commercial: contracts with councils and landlords, compliance and ESG commitments.
You will also:
- Take a direct role in M&A, supporting the legal side of acquisitions from diligence to completion.
- Use AI and automation to remove admin, for example, building a legal dashboard and automating first drafts and routine tasks.
About you:
- Qualified solicitor in England and Wales with a current practising certificate and at least 2 years PQE. More experienced lawyers are very welcome.
- Hands on experience in housing law, ideally possession and disrepair, from the social housing, local authority, temporary accommodation or landlord side.
- A pragmatic, commercial mindset: you give clear advice the business can act on.
- Sensible, credible with senior people, and not afraid of hard work.
- Comfortable with technology and keen to use AI to work smarter.
- Helpful but not essential: M&A or corporate experience, property compliance, regulatory exposure (including CQC), or ESG.
