The Design Engineer will lead in the design and development of high-quality products for the hygiene industries, these products will both be new developments and in market modifications. The design engineer will seek out novel approaches to complex issues encountered by the design team and support other members of the team in successfully implementing these into products. Where possible the engineers will recognise the possibility for patents and applications. This role will look to collaborate with the marketing department to ensure the product is recognised in industry design awards where this adds value to the product.
The design engineer will analyse competitor products and technologies to produce summary documentation for analysis by all levels of the business. This role ensures that the technology we develop is "clunk click" products that are easy to manufacture, install and use; it is part of this role to assure that other engineers adopt this approach. This role also will investigate design methodologies that suit a particular product being developed.
The design engineer will support in the development of project documentation and using best practices to design products both on time and to budget. The design engineer will provide technical support to both internal and external stakeholders, so good communication skills and the ability to work within a team are essential. The role also requires attendance at exhibitions and providing training when requested to do so. The role has the potential for travel both foreign and domestic.
The Design and Development team consists of engineers from multiple specialisms including electronic design, firmware and software, so an understanding of these specialisms is essential.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Support project administration for both in market and new product development projects ensuring projects are completed both on time and to budget.
- Produce concepts and assist in estimating project time scales and costs for proposed projects along with generating clear and concise product specifications.
- Organise tasks and assign priorities so that they are completed on time.
- Ensure all designs are suitable for manufacture.
- Continual improvements of the design process to ensure that the processes the company uses are both up to date and fit for purpose.
- Assist with both internal and external audits from regulatory bodies such as ISO, UL, WRAS, CE. Ensure all regulations are up to date.
- Undertake product testing required by the design and development department, issue reports and verify testing undertaken.
- Support the Quality Assurance team with fault finding on product returns or quality issues.
- Generate technical documentation for new product development or new parts, this includes 2D and 3D drawings.
- Support product where necessary in design undertaking tasks with sales and marketing to ensure a smooth transition from design to manufacture to sales.
- Ensure product manuals and guides are up to date and accurate and amend these guides when required.
