Unlocking the potential of every individual. At BrightTeach, we believe that every individual is deserving of the best education possible, so we connect with our students, helping them to thrive in education and giving them the personalised learning and support they need to become confident, knowledgeable and fulfilled adults. We care passionately about providing the best quality tutoring to students with additional needs, through matching the needs, interests and learning styles of the student with a complimentary tutor. If you find SEND tutoring rewarding and want to make a difference in a student’s education, we’d love to hear from you!

About The Role: BrightTeach SEND Tutors offer educational provision on an individual or small group basis to learners with a range of special educational needs. Tuition is offered across the ages from early years through to post 16. Tutors will deliver bespoke and individualised lessons designed to support the child or young person’s presenting needs and deliver to their mutually agreed targets/outcomes. They will need to be skilled in building rapport with complex children and young people to enable them to engage in the educational opportunities.

Tutors will need to ensure that lessons are engaging, personalised and in line with the requirements set out in the learner’s assessments and other educational information, i.e. their EHCP. Tutors will commonly need to provide pastoral/mentoring support alongside their academic lessons, to ensure appropriate engagement from learners who will often be disengaged from conventional education opportunities. Occasionally some of our more complex children/young people are supported by a multi‑disciplinary team and tutors will need to work in collaboration with that team, spending time understanding the desired pathway for the child or young person. Where a child or young person is approaching a key transition point, tutors will be involved in supporting the transition process, sharing relevant information and supporting the learner in being ready for the next step of their educational journey.

This role is subject to an enhanced DBS. Please review our safeguarding policy for further information.

  • To deliver a personalised curriculum to learners with SEND on an individual and/or small group basis.
  • To establish a learner's baseline attainments and prepare appropriate targets in line with the learner’s identified outcomes as described in their associated assessments/reviews (EHCP/PEP etc.).
  • To plan the programme of study sessions; the BrightTeach SEND management team will be able to offer limited guidance.
  • To monitor, review and evaluate progress from each session using the BrightTeach monitoring system – LearnTrek.
  • To contribute to other reviewing processes as appropriate; for example the Annual Review and PEP (personal education plan) for Looked After Children.
  • To build and maintain successful relationships with learners, treat them consistently with respect and consideration and demonstrate concern for their development as learners.
  • To develop an understanding of the special educational needs of the learners concerned and how their needs impact upon their ability to learn.
  • To promote independent learning as appropriate to need.

Teaching and Learning Activities:

  • To use clearly structured learning activities, which interest and motivate learners and progress them.
  • To communicate effectively and sensitively with learners to support their learning.
  • To promote the inclusion of all learners in the activities in which they are involved.
  • To advance learners’ learning in a range of creative approaches to tasks set.
  • To recognise and respond effectively to equal opportunities issues as they arise.

BrightTeach is committed to continuous learning and tutors are expected to engage in their own continuing professional development, however opportunities for CPD can be provided via BrightTeach as well. BrightTeach SEND uses tutors with a range of qualifications, experiences and training to support the wide range of children and young people referred to them. While a degree or qualification associated with special educational needs and disability and/or qualified teacher status is not always mandatory, it is imperative that candidates have an educational background with demonstrable experience supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

You Must Be Able To:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding, implementing necessary policies.
  • Provide tutorial support in an environment where learners feel safe and secure.
  • Engage with learners to build partnerships of trust and support to encourage and motivate learning.
  • Proactively promote equality of opportunity, diversity and inclusion when working with learners.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of attendance, punctuality and behaviour on individuals’ learning.
  • Update the daily log to maintain accurate records of the learner’s attendance, behaviour and participation.
  • Work within the boundaries and limitations of the personal tutoring role.

This job is flexible, and part/full‑time opportunities are available. Competitive rates of pay. Our company focuses on ensuring our tutors are rewarded for their abilities. We pay a variable hourly rate of between £30‑£42 per hour, based on qualifications, training, and years of experience working with SEND.
