Location: Hereford (possible occasional cover for Walsall / Stoke)

Salary: Minimum Wage

Normal Working Hours: Term Time - 20 to 25 Hours Per Week (Additional ad-hoc evening and holidays available)

As part of our Alternative Provision Programme, you will contribute to the provision of a service to young people aged 11–18 years old from a wide variety of backgrounds; supporting young people to remain in education, promote positive and health choices and reduce risks associated with anti-social behaviour and exploitation. Our Alternative Provision Programme uses the sport of Boxing to inspire, engage and connect. At Brightstar, we are dedicated to drive achievement and positive behaviour changes in every young person referred to us. Education does not have to be a linear path; our alternative education provisions aim to engage young people and show them there is always an available route to achieving.

Main Responsibilities

  • Engaging the young people with the programme by setting achievable goals
  • Planning and delivering structured Boxing sessions
  • Boxing sessions both in group and 1-2-1 settings with vulnerable young people creating interactive physical group Boxing Sessions alongside 1-2-1 sessions to engage young people
  • Guiding young people through Bronze, Silver and Gold Boxing awards
  • Using methods of supporting young people to overcome social, educational and emotional barriers during sessions
  • Establishing a positive and interactive rapport with each young person
  • Using Boxing as a tool for change in the lives of vulnerable young people, by using the values that come with boxing to help with emotional regulation
  • To work as part of a team supporting each individual young person
  • Being able to create structured lesson plans and long-term boxing schemes around the group and individual session

General Responsibilities

  • Create and promote an inclusive environment for all your young people
  • Complying with all YPI's policies and conditions of service as laid out in the Team Handbook
  • Undertaking training as required and agreed through supervision, to build up specialist knowledge and experience in meeting the needs of young people
  • Maintaining awareness of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and other legislation as appropriate; including the Equality Act 2010, with particular reference to the protected characteristics
  • Strict adherence to Safeguarding guidelines and applicable legislation at all times
  • To work flexibly throughout the week, including evening work where necessary
  • Any other duties commensurate with the grade, and falling within the scope of the post, as requested by management
  • Addressing the needs of the most socially excluded young people and those who are not in education, training or employment
  • Represent Brightstar culture and values
  • Contribute to the daily reports of young people
  • Be a positive role model
  • Adhere to Brightstar Policies and Procedures
  • Keep up to date on KCSIA
  • Attend any training as required
  • Up to date on Safeguarding and local issues for our CYP
  • Find different methods of supporting and engaging all young people

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Track record in individual / Group Coaching
  • England Boxing Level 1
