Boxing Mentor

Brightstar

Location: Solihull (possible occasional cover for Walsall / Stoke)

Salary: Minimum Wage

Working Hours: Term Time – 20 to 25 Hours Per Week (additional ad‑hoc evening and holiday work available)

We are passionate about helping children and young people. As part of our Alternative Provision Programme, you will support young people aged 11‑18 from diverse backgrounds, helping them remain in education, make positive health choices and reduce risks of antisocial behaviour and exploitation. Boxing is used as a vehicle to inspire, engage and connect, aiming to foster resilience, respect and a lifelong commitment to personal growth.

Main Responsibilities

  • Engage young people with the programme by setting achievable goals
  • Plan and deliver structured boxing sessions, both in group and 1‑2‑1 settings
  • Guide young people through Bronze, Silver and Gold boxing awards
  • Use methods to support young people in overcoming social, educational and emotional barriers during sessions
  • Establish a positive and interactive rapport with each young person
  • Use boxing as a tool for change, aiding emotional regulation and personal development
  • Work as part of a team, creating lesson plans and long‑term boxing schemes for groups and individuals
  • Create and promote an inclusive environment for all young people
  • Comply with YPI policies, undertake required training, and maintain awareness of health & safety, the Equality Act, and safeguarding guidelines
  • Work flexibly throughout the week, including evenings, and undertake other duties within the scope of the post
  • Represent Brightstar culture and values, contribute to daily reports, and serve as a positive role model

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Track record in individual/group coaching
  • England Boxing Level 1 certification
