As a Kitchen Porter at Milford Hall Hotel, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our kitchen clean, organised, and running smoothly. You’ll support the wider kitchen team by ensuring all equipment, dishes, and workspaces are spotless and safe, enabling chefs to deliver great food in a fast-paced environment.

Objectives of this role

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic kitchen environment.
  • Support chefs by ensuring equipment and dishes are available when needed.
  • Comply with health and safety and food hygiene standards at all times.
  • Assist with basic food preparation tasks as required.
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative kitchen culture.

Quality

  • Wash and sanitise all dishes, utensils, cookware, and equipment.
  • Keep kitchen floors, walls, surfaces, and storage areas clean and safe.
  • Maintain a hygienic and organised pot wash area.
  • Ensure bins are emptied and cleaned regularly.
  • Replenish cleaning products and kitchen supplies when needed.
  • Follow cleaning checklists and schedules consistently.
  • Report maintenance or hygiene issues to management promptly.

Profit

  • Handle equipment and cleaning products responsibly to reduce waste.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are cleaned and ready for use.
  • Support timely food preparation by keeping clean items in constant supply.
  • Use resources efficiently to help manage kitchen costs.
  • Prevent kitchen downtime by keeping dish and prep areas well-stocked.
  • Assist with basic prep tasks during quieter periods to aid service speed.
  • Help maintain kitchen standards that contribute to guest satisfaction.

Responsible Business

  • Follow all COSHH, health & safety, and manual handling procedures.
  • Comply with all food hygiene and allergen safety guidelines.
  • Handle cleaning materials and waste disposal safely and responsibly.
  • Support environmentally friendly practices such as recycling.
  • Keep walkways clear and report any hazards immediately.
  • Wear correct PPE and follow uniform and grooming standards.
  • Treat guests, colleagues, and equipment with care and respect.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and operational standards including any hotel-specific brand standards.
  • Complete all E-learning and mandatory training within required timeframes.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong attention to cleanliness and detail.
  • Reliable, hard-working, and proactive attitude.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in fast-paced environments.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of kitchen safety and hygiene practices.
  • Physical stamina to handle lifting and long periods on your feet.
  • Willingness to work late nights when required, including cleaning and closing duties after service.
  • Previous experience in a kitchen or cleaning role (preferred).
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and evenings (preferred).
  • Basic food preparation knowledge (preferred).
  • Food hygiene certification (preferred).
