This is a highly hands-on opportunity within a small, autonomous engineering team. You'll be responsible for turning early-stage ideas into working mechanical designs, getting involved in CAD, prototyping, testing, troubleshooting and working with manufacturing to ensure designs can ultimately be scaled for production.

We're looking for someone who is technically strong, practical and comfortable working independently. You'll be given an objective and expected to take ownership of working out how to achieve it, rather than simply being handed a defined task list.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design and development of key components within a wider energy system
  • Take designs from early-stage concepts through CAD, prototyping, testing and validation
  • Develop 3D models, detailed drawings and technical specifications
  • Work closely with systems engineers to ensure mechanical components integrate effectively within the wider system
  • Support prototype builds and get hands-on with physical hardware
  • Diagnose technical issues and carry out root cause analysis
  • Develop component requirements and support testing to validate performance and reliability
  • Work closely with manufacturing, quality and supply chain teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable
  • Consider future mass production and scalability when making design decisions
  • Support technical reviews, risk assessments and design improvements
  • Work with suppliers and external partners where required
  • Take ownership of mechanical engineering activities within a small, highly autonomous team

Experience & Skills

  • Degree or equivalent technical background in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong experience in mechanical engineering, component design and system-level mechanical design
  • Proven experience taking mechanical designs from concept through to testing and validation
  • Strong hands-on CAD experience
  • Practical experience with prototyping and physical hardware
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
  • Understanding of design for manufacture and designing with future production and scalability in mind
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of technical workstreams
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with multiple engineering disciplines and stakeholders
  • Experience in a fast-moving or early-stage engineering environment
  • Experience with Creo, FEA, thermal analysis, manifolds/piping systems or engineering risk tools would be advantageous
  • Experience within clean energy, automotive, HVAC or another complex mechanical systems environment would be beneficial

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer to take genuine ownership of a key area of technology development, working hands-on within a small engineering team and helping take an early-stage system towards production.
