Our Owen Sound Hospital is the regional referral centre, offering Level 2/3 Critical Care Units (ICU, CCU, Step-Down), 24/7 diagnostic imaging (MRI, CT, PACS, labs), and comprehensive specialty support. Thriving rural hospitals in Lion’s Head, Markdale, Meaford, Southampton, and Wiarton extend care across the region, ensuring seamless access and integration. This system-wide collaboration allows for both high-acuity tertiary-level care and a strong rural health focus.
The Opportunity: We are recruiting General Internal Medicine (GIM) Physicians to join our expanding Department of Medicine. This permanent full-time role offers an excellent balance of acute inpatient medicine, outpatient consultations, and regional outreach.
- Scope of Practice:
- Emergency Department consultations & admissions
- MRP coverage for CCU/Step-Down Units (8–12 patients)
- Inpatient consultations across surgical, psychiatric, and hospitalist services
- Outpatient Rapid Access & Post-Discharge Clinics (in development)
- Diagnostic/procedural services (e.g., stress testing)
- Regional case conferences & virtual consultations with partner hospitals
- Opportunities for medical education and teaching
Qualifications & Skills Required:
- Certification in Internal Medicine (FRCPC or equivalent)
- Eligible for independent CPSO license
- Broad-based clinical expertise in acute & chronic medicine
- Commitment to patient-centred, evidence-based care
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Interest in regional and rural health integration
Preferred:
- Subspecialty interest (Cardiology, Critical Care, Respirology, Geriatrics, etc.)
- Teaching & mentorship experience
- Engagement in quality improvement, governance, and research

Integration with Critical Care (IM + ICM): Internal Medicine at Owen Sound uniquely integrates with Critical Care Medicine, offering a hybrid practice model:
- 20 Critical Care Beds (8 ICU, 12 CCU/Step-Down; expansion under review)
- Shared-pair service delivery (2 attending physicians, ~10 patients each)
- On-call coverage: ED, inpatient consults, and 10 rural hospitals
- Telemedicine & stroke care integration with regional systems
- Opportunities in CME, Quality Improvement, and academic rounds
