We are a plucky, independent, fully-remote video game studio primarily based in the UK, and makers of the widely praised and highly-rated Galacticare and War for the Overworld. The core team has joined together from all over the world because of a shared passion for building brighter universes. Our goal is to continue creating genre-twisting 3D simulation and management games; and if we can do it with a quirkily British sense of humour, then all the better!

We are seeking a Senior Environment Artist to join the team working on Kaiju Cleanup for a 6-month contract. You will be joining a highly passionate team of developers, helping us push and blend the boundaries of traditional game genres. As a Senior Environment Artist, you will be integral to shaping the visual identity of our worlds - translating high-level design concepts into immersive, readable, and technically sound 3D environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead World-Building: Work alongside the Art Lead and Designers to create, set-dress, and polish high-quality 3D environments that support gameplay and are optimized given tight performance constraints.
  • Asset Creation: Model and texture a wide range of assets, from modular building kits to unique "hero" props, ensuring they fit our established visual style.
  • Pipeline & Mentorship: Provide guidance to the art team on best practices for environment workflows, including modularity and trim sheets.
  • Collaboration: Effectively collaborate with the design team to ensure environments aren’t just pretty, but also functional for game mechanics and UI requirements.
  • Technical Art Integration: Work within Unity to set up materials, develop prototype block outs, implement final art assets, and work with the VFX team to bring your environments to life.

Requirements

  • We are looking for someone who has demonstrable experience in creating stylised or semi-realistic environments, possesses a keen eye for architectural storytelling, and thrives on the unique challenges of building assets for novel games within a tight-knit indie team.
  • Senior Level Experience: You have a portfolio demonstrating high-quality environment work on at least one shipped title (ideally in the PC/Console space).
  • 3D Mastery: Expert proficiency in industry-standard tools like (Blender or 3ds Max preferred).
  • Texturing Expertise: Deep understanding of PBR workflows (Substance Suite preferred).
  • Unity Native: Extensive experience working directly within Unity, including Prefab management, ProBuilder (or similar), and the Universal Render Pipeline (URP).
  • Artistic Eye: A strong grasp of composition, colour theory, and lighting to guide the player’s eye within complex scenes.
  • Indie Spirit: You’ll have a passion for working in a small indie games development team, where collaboration matters more than titles, and everyone contributes to creating something special.

Desirable

  • Performance Optimization: Experience managing draw calls, LODs, and texture atlasing to keep our games running smoothly.
  • Technical Art Skills: Ability to tweak lighting within Unity to help deliver the scene.

Please Note: This is a 6-month contract, remote-working position, open to anyone within the UK & Europe.
