The recruitment team supports hiring managers across Brighton & Hove City Council with roles ranging from library officers to lawyers, tree surgeons to toilet cleaners, plasterers to planning professionals. As the team leader, you will play an important part in managing the team’s resources to deliver an efficient and effective recruitment service across all permanent, seasonal and fixed‑term roles, ensuring we recruit the right people for the right jobs.

As the Team Leader, you will:

  • manage, motivate and develop a team of Recruitment Officers to deliver an effective and efficient recruitment and onboarding service;
  • contribute to the development and implementation of sound transactional recruitment processes that enable us to recruit a diverse and skilled workforce;
  • act as an escalation point for managers and applicants needing professional support, advice and guidance in complex recruitment situations;
  • oversee background‑checking processes including right‑to‑work, sponsorship and DBS checks.

Key qualifications and skills:

  • Experience of managing a busy recruitment team;
  • Excellent customer service focus with a commitment to putting customers and their needs at the centre of our work;
  • Strong communication skills, able to work collaboratively with a wide range of partners in an accessible and inclusive manner;
  • Experience of using IT systems and applications to track recruitment processes;
  • Ability to work independently and plan and prioritise work in a very busy and fast‑paced environment.
