The Role
As a Personal Care Assistant, you’ll be part of our client’s dedicated support team, providing essential care in their home. You’ll be employed by HomeCareDirect but will focus solely on supporting this client.
This role is for 16 hours per week. Shifts will be allocated to meet the needs of the client and will be between 08:00 – 23:00, Monday to Sunday.
About the Client & Your Responsibilities
Our client is a young woman with learning disabilities and complex health needs who is looking for personal assistants who can assist her to live independently at home with her parents.
When she is well, she is very sociable and enjoys going to cafés, the cinema, museums, shows and hanging out with friends. she likes to be out and about and enjoys using her tricycle on the seafront and in the park. When she is not well, she enjoys listening to stories, watching DVDs and appreciates companionship and someone to make sure she is as comfortable as possible.
You will be required to undertake duties such as assisting with personal care, medication administration, moving & handling with and without a hoist, supporting our client during prolonged myoclonus (shaking) episodes, first aid and light housework/cooking. You will also be required to support her with her communication programme (PODD), for which training will be given.
We are looking for a personal assistant who is respectful, fun, well organised and who is able to adapt to make the best of everyday, whether our client is well or not well. Experience of working with people with learning disabilities is a must. You will need to be caring and compassionate but also resilient and able to use your initiative.
Training & Support
We provide comprehensive, paid training (to CQC standards) before your start date, covering:
• Full induction
• Safeguarding Adults
• First Aid / Food Hygiene / Health & Safety
• Moving and Handling / Medication Administering
• Special Communication Needs
• Learning Disabilities / Epilepsy
All training must be completed prior to start date and is paid at £14.40 per hour.
Who We’re Looking For
– This position is female-only, in accordance with The Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9 Part 1
– Driver with a full UK driving licence and aged over 25yrs for insurance purposes
– Previous experience of working with Learning Disabilities
