We are looking for Children’s Support and Personal Care Workers to join our team and assist with day-to-day support for Adolescence service users within Hertfordshire County Council Residential and Supported Living Units.

About the Role

We are seeking competent care assistants to support Adolescence people with physical and/or mental challenges in their everyday lives, enabling independence wherever possible. Our service users have varying needs, including:

  • Mild to severe learning disabilities
  • Mental health difficulties
  • Sensory impairments
  • Dysphagia and epilepsy

Key Responsibilities

Your duties will depend on the needs of the child you care for and may include:

  • Assisting with washing and dressing
  • Preparing meals and helping with feeding
  • Carrying out household tasks: shopping, tidying, cleaning, laundry
  • Building positive relationships and understanding individual needs and interests
  • Monitoring health and weight, recording any concerns
  • Following care plans, routines, guidelines, risk assessments, and Behaviour Management Plans
  • Ensuring prescribed medications are taken and administering medication (training provided)
  • Supporting mental and physical wellbeing through activities
  • Assisting with physical therapy exercises
  • Working collaboratively with social care and healthcare professionals
  • Providing mobility support: moving and handling, hoisting
  • Acting quickly and responsibly in emergencies

Skills & Qualifications

  • Sensitivity and understanding of people’s needs
  • Ability to carry out household chores and cook nutritious meals
  • Patience and ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with different types of people

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 6 months’ experience working with vulnerable Adolescence people in a care home, hospital, or charity setting
  • Advanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required
  • Previous childcare experience essential

Additional Information

  • Training and annual refresher training provided and paid for by Guidant Global
  • You must be able to communicate fluently in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Access to transport is essential to travel between sites across Brighton & Hove
