Salary: Actual £21,748 - £25,825 (FTE £27,789 - £32,998) depending on experience. Working hours are 32 hours and 45 minutes per week, Monday - Friday during term time.
We are seeking to appoint a Higher‑Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our professional and innovative department. You will join our team of SEND staff, two SENDCOs and a SEND Practitioner to support and develop inclusive learning in the classroom. The role will also involve leadership and management of targeted interventions within our established HIVE learning space, with a primary focus on developing awareness of and support for our children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). We offer high‑quality support from colleagues in the HIVE and senior leadership team, as well as extensive CPD training and development for all staff. Responsibilities- Complement the professional role of the teacher by supporting teaching and learning, and contribute to and implement curriculum programmes for EHCP, SEND and lower attaining students.
- Oversee, manage and shape the interventions in place within the department.
- Create, monitor and evaluate student passports.
- In liaison with the SEND CO and using data to identify the needs of specific students, plan timely targeted interventions to support and develop their learning.
- Increase the frequency of SLCN screening for identified students.
- Lead a small group and 1:1 intervention session.
- Support and develop colleagues (teaching staff and SEN staff) by providing CPD and sharing best practice.
- Liaise with students with specific learning needs to best support their attendance, engagement and progress in school.
- Proactively liaise with external agencies and parents/carers regarding progress and engagement of students.
- Participate as part of a team of professionals to create action plans and contribute to whole‑school improvement.
- Experience of working as a TA or HLTA, with a relevant professional qualification and knowledge and skills to support students with varied special educational needs and disabilities.
- Be prepared to complete CPD to become an ELSA trained member of staff, if not already.
- Ability to establish positive and effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and other stakeholders.
- Due to training and expertise, you will carry a specific specialist responsibility and support and develop other staff in the school when help is needed.
- Enthusiasm to participate fully in all areas of school life.
- Willingness and enthusiasm to undertake additional training to support student needs and engagement with educational research.
- Ability to adapt to practice and contribute toward the SEND vision.
- Empathetic demeanour to understand and effectively support students with SEND.
