Job Description
Theatre Staff (Zero-hours)
Location: Brighton
Salary: £14.26 per hour, inclusive of holiday pay
Vacancy Type: Permanent/Part Time
Brighton College is seeking to appoint Theatre Staff on a zero-hour basis.
Main Purpose of the Role: The Theatre Staff will work with the Performing Arts Team to deliver top customer service for all events held within the Richard Cairns Building and Music School.
Role Summary: The Theatre Staff play a key role within the Performing Arts Team supporting the patrons and other users of the Richard Cairns Building with the operational resources needed for their events. The main key objective of the Theatre Staff is to provide a friendly and welcoming environment for our audience and to ensure their safety and comfort throughout their visit. The ideal candidate will be someone with a passion for theatre, music and live events, as well as being customer-focused and willing to go the extra mile.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- To arrive in good time to commence your shift and report to the Duty Manager for each show briefing;
- To ensure that the foyer, public areas, and Theatre spaces are kept clean, tidy and presentable at all times;
- To pick up any rubbish during intervals and following performances;
- To always act as a representative and ambassador of Brighton College;
- To attend department meetings and training sessions, as required;
- To be an active and supportive member of the Brighton College staff team.
- Any other reasonable management request.
Health and Safety
- To be familiar with evacuation and emergency procedures and assist with evacuations as required;
- To ensure your own health and safety and that of all others within the building at all times;
- To be familiar with and uphold health and safety rules which affect the conditions of the Cairns Theatre license (training will be provided on this).
Service and Sales
- To provide the highest level of customer and audience care and service at all times whilst a member of the Cairns Theatre staff team;
- To welcome audience members to the theatre, check their tickets and help seat them within the theatre spaces;
- To be familiar with the access issues of audience members and to provide assistance as required;
- To sell any show refreshments and merchandise available, such as programmes, scripts, ice creams, etc;
- To be familiar with and uphold the Brighton College Conduct for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
Person SpecificationsThe successful candidate will have experience in the following areas:
- Excellent problem solving, fault-finding and decision-making skills;
- Interest in and passion for the arts;
- Enthusiasm and calmness;
- Ability to work collaboratively;
- Good communication skills including a good standard of spoken and written English;
- Good time management;
- Highly organised;
- Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and procedures within technical theatre.
Hours of WorkThis is an all-year round (52 weeks) appointment on a zero hour basis. The services you provide to the College will be on an ad-hoc basis. This means that whilst the College will try to give you as much notice as possible when offering work, there is no obligation on the part of the College to provide such work nor for you to accept any work offered.
Further discussions will take place at interview regarding availability of ad-hoc hours.
Remuneration£14.26 per hour, inclusive of holiday pay.
HolidaysHoliday entitlement is included in the hourly pay rate for this role.
