Job Description
Deputy Transport Manager
Location: Brighton BN2 0AL
Salary: £38,000 per annum
Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Deputy Transport Manager to work alongside our Transport Manager, on a permanent, full-time basis.
Main Purpose of the Role: The Deputy Transport Manager will assist in overseeing the transport operations of the school, ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable transportation of pupils to and from school, as well as to various extracurricular events, including sports activities. This role involves managing complex transport requirements and collaborating with various stakeholders to support the school's ambitious curriculum program.
General Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Management:
- Support the Transport Manager in planning and coordinating the daily transport operation for pupils, including home-to-school transport and extracurricular activities.
- Ensure the timely and safe transportation of pupils while adhering to all transportation regulations and policies.
Logistics Planning:
- Assist in developing and implementing dynamic transport schedules to accommodate complex routes and differing requirements, including sports events and other school activities.
- Coordinate with external transport providers when necessary to fulfil transport needs.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, safeguarding protocols, and transportation policies.
- Regularly review and update risk assessments to ensure safe transport practices are followed.
- Communication and Coordination:
- Serve as a point of contact for parents, staff, and pupils regarding transport-related inquiries and concerns.
- Collaborate effectively with the school's administration, sports department, and external partners to facilitate smooth transportation for school events.
Driver Management:
- Assist in recruiting, training, and managing a team of drivers, ensuring that they adhere to best practices in safety and customer service.
- Monitor driver performance and conduct regular evaluations to uphold high standards of service.
Budget and Resource Management:
- Support the Transport Manager in managing the transport budget, including monitoring expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Ensure the maintenance and operational readiness of vehicles, coordinating repairs and servicing as needed.
Data Management:
- Maintain accurate records of transport operations, including student ridership, vehicle usage, and incidents.
- Prepare reports and provide insights on transport efficiency and areas for improvement.
- Operate the Home to School software system Vectare in support of the operation including billing, route and stop changes and driver management and parent communications.
Person Specifications
The successful candidate will have experience in the following areas:
- Transport management or logistics, ideally within an educational or similar environment.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations related to transport operations.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with pupils, parents, and staff.
- Competency in using transport management software and Microsoft Office Suite (desirable).
- A proactive approach to improving transport services and enhancing student safety (desirable).
- Able to manage a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure (desirable).
- The Deputy Transport Manager must hold a D1 licence or similar and be to drive minibuses where necessary (desirable).
Hours of Work
Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 5.00pm with a 60 minute unpaid lunch break (40 hours per week). This role may require occasional evening and weekend work to attend events (eg Open Mornings) and to address transport issues as they arise. The Deputy Transport Manager will also be expected to be on-site during peak transport times.
Holidays
23 days, plus bank holidays increasing to 28 days plus bank holidays after 2 years of service (of which 3 days need to be taken between Christmas and New Year when the College is closed).
