Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Teacher of AI to join its new AI Department in September 2027.
The Department
The successful candidate will be joining a brand new department at one of the UK’s leading independent schools. One of the most forward-thinking schools in the country, Brighton College is renowned for its innovative curriculum which provides its pupils with a modern and meaningful preparation for life beyond the school. From September 2027, all pupils in the College will receive weekly AI lessons, delivered by the AI department alongside academic subject specialists.
The school has enjoyed great academic success in recent years, both in terms of academic results and university success. Our Upper Sixth regularly receive over 40 Oxbridge offers, with an increasing number of our leavers also receiving offers from the very top universities around the world, particularly in the United States. This success is underpinned by our excellent A-level and GCSE results. 2026 saw 89% of grades being either a 9 or 8 at GCSE, with our A* percentage at A-level regularly around 45% and our A*-A figure around 85%. The Teacher of AI will contribute to the success of pupils at College by preparing them to use AI in effective and inspiring ways in both their current work and in developing their competencies and ambitions towards their futures.
Role Specification
As artificial intelligence reshapes education and the workplace, Brighton College is developing an ambitious, sector-leading AI programme embedded within its curriculum. In partnership with pioneering research institutions and blue-chip technology companies, the school aims to prepare pupils and staff to use AI creatively, responsibly and effectively.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach AI to pupils from Year 7 to Year 13 working in collaboration with subject specialists. They will also be expected to work alongside the Director of AI in developing and resourcing curricula and schemes of work, with a willingness to adapt these in order to reflect the ever- changing nature of AI. As this will be a new department, the successful candidate will be expected to be flexible and willing to contribute to its development and expansion over the coming months and years.
The successful candidate will be an AI native with a strong technical understanding of generative AI and its implications for education and work. If they have taught previously this might have been in any academic discipline, and it is likely that they will be able to give concrete examples of how AI has enhanced their teaching practice.
Although the department is distinct from the Computing department, an ability to contribute towards that department’s extension programme, including a willingness to support pupils with applications to leading universities (including Oxford and Cambridge), will be a distinct advantage.
Additionally, all teachers at Brighton College are expected to contribute to the school’s pastoral system, generally as a tutor in one of our 16 houses (of which six are boarding houses and ten are day).
There is also an expectation that all teachers will contribute to the cocurricular life of the school, through the extensive Games programme, and/or through the leadership of one of over 100 school societies.
Candidates are encouraged to point to interests and enthusiasms as part of their application. All staff have the opportunity to contribute to our Masterclass programme; this is a series of weekly lessons designed to celebrate the enjoyment of learning, focusing on an area of personal academic or cultural interest. These have included subjects such as Magical Realism, Cuisine and Culture and Great Debates in History.
All teachers joining Brighton will have the benefit of guidance by an experienced mentor, whose role it will be to provide support during their probationary period. Thereafter, all teachers are expected and supported to participate in continuous professional development, throughout their time at the College.
