Brighton College Prep Hove is seeking to appoint a Director of Music (0.4 FTE) starting in January 2027, on a fixed-term contract until 31 August 2027. This is a term-time only role.

This role has responsibility and oversight for the planning and delivery of Music to pupils in Nursery to Year 6. The successful candidate should be passionate about the education and welfare of pupils and possess an innovative and dynamic approach. They will be supportive of the school and its over-arching aims and be committed to a continuous improvement of our provision.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ To develop and lead a creative and inspirational Music programme and organise its delivery, including updating Schemes of Work as required and contributing to the whole school development plan.
β’ To be responsible for monitoring the performance and functioning of the department.
β’ To attend HOD and curriculum meetings as required.
β’ To manage the Music Department budget.
β’ To attend inset courses and maintain an up-to-date awareness of subject developments.
β’ To identify and work with potential music scholars.
β’ To oversee visiting music teachers, including recruitment, timetables (in liaison with the co-curricular administrator),demonstrations and finances (in liaison with the College music administrator).
β’ To communicate with parents over choice and suitability of instruments and queries relating to music lessons.
β’ To accompany pupils in music exams, and work with the College to organise exam visits.
β’ To oversee loans of school instruments.
β’ To seek opportunities to develop and promote music within the school and wider community, for example entering music competitions and arranging visits for choral groups.
β’ To plan and deliver the Music Challenge week activities.
β’ To prepare music groups for major concerts.
β’ To co-direct productions across the school with the Head of Drama, and support with the production of all shows.
β’ To prepare music for the Make a Difference Service, Remembrance and Christmas Carol services.
β’ To provide musical items for Open Mornings and Speech Day.
β’ To prepare music for assemblies and chapel services.
β’ To support admissions events as required.
β’ To organise the yearly House Music competition and a winners' recital.
β’ To co-ordinate co-curricular music activities. Providing weekly rehearsals for choirs, orchestras and wind band. Overseeing the running of ensembles taken by VMTS.
β’ To have expertise in both choral and instrumental direction, and be a proficient pianist.
β’ To promote ensembles and choirs to ensure gender equality and balance.
β’ To support Scholarship preparation at 11+ entry for the College.
Work Pattern
This is a 0.4 FTE role, with the anticipated working days being two days per week, selected from Monday, Wednesday and Friday. xiskglj This is a term-time only role.
