About the role
The Education and Students Portfolio supports all aspects of the student experience from application through to graduation and progression. We are seeking a Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor to support the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education and Students) and to work with the Vice-Chancellor, the Director of the Division of Student Experience and colleagues across the Faculties, to deliver the portfolio’s strategic aims and objectives. This role is offered as an internal only opportunity and candidates will already hold a senior academic post at the University. The post means they will devote 50% of their time to the Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellorship and revert to their underlying role at the end of the term of appointment.
About you
The postholder will have considerable experience of, and an ability to lead in matters relating to education and students, with evidence of positive outcomes for the student experience and academic quality. The postholder will bring experience of working on institution-wide projects, and extensive knowledge of the current challenges facing Sussex. The postholder should bring to the role imagination, creativity, and innovation, to ensure excellence in our students’ education, learning and experience, as well as a robust understanding of academic quality and integrity, and the regulatory environment relating to student experience and outcomes.
About our Division
The Vice-Chancellor’s Office (VCO) supports the University’s senior academic leaders (the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy-Vice-Chancellor, and Pro-Vice-Chancellors), and the University’s professional services lead (the Chief Operating Officer). The VCO advises and assists senior leaders, provides day-to-day executive support, and facilitates the University’s leadership groups. These are the University Leadership Forum (ULF), the Academic Leadership Forum (ALF) and the Professional Services Leadership Team (PSLT). The VCO is also responsible for the University’s executive governance function which supports the Vice-Chancellor in the day-to-day management of the University and in realising the University’s strategic and operational objectives, subject to Council’s oversight. The University’s executive governance function operates in conjunction with the University’s academic (Senate) and corporate (Council) governance. Together these three strands of governance help ensure the University realises its operational and strategic objectives, meets its regulatory and statutory obligations, and is governed in accordance with its Regulations, Statutes and Charter.
