Hours: Full time or part time hours considered up to a maximum of 1.0 FTE/ 36.5 hours per week. Requests for flexible working options will be considered (subject to business need).
Grade: 5 starting at £30,378 to £34,610 per annum, pro rata if part time.

About the role: As a Research Finance Officer, you will be responsible for financial management for research projects, from initial project set-up through to final closure. You will support Senior Research Finance Officers and collaborate with colleagues across the Research and Innovation Team. While experience within the higher education sector is desirable, candidates without direct HE experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants who can demonstrate relevant transferable skills—particularly in project accounting, financial management, or stakeholder engagement—will be fully considered.
About you: You will have a high level of financial literacy, developing an in-depth knowledge of finance systems used to support financial management of our research and consultancy projects. You will be involved in setting up projects including budgets, raising invoices, creating and posting journals.

Last year alone we submitted 681 bids, received 230 awards, completed the set-up of 227 projects just to give an idea of how dynamic our Division is.

This role may be eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route. The assigned SOC code is 4124 Finance officers and the going rate is £41,700. Eligibility for sponsorship will depend on the salary offered, whether the candidate can make use of tradeable points option E: new entrant to meet the salary offered, and whether the candidate holds an existing Skilled Worker sponsorship which began before 22 July 2025. The University requires that work undertaken for the University is performed in the UK.
