Brighter Pathway Care is a new three-bed children's residential home in Gillingham, Medway, providing specialist EBD (emotional and behavioural difficulties) placements for boys aged 12 to 14. We are currently progressing through Ofsted pre-registration and are building a small, values-led team committed to giving each young person a stable, therapeutic environment in which to grow. The home is family-founded and family-run, with a clinical and operational focus on relationship-based care, predictable routines, and long-term outcomes for the children we look after.

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Registered Manager based in Gillingham. We are open to two kinds of candidate: an experienced Registered Manager looking for a new home to shape from day one, or a strong Deputy Manager who is ready and qualified to step up into their first RM post. For the right Deputy, we will provide structured support through our partnership with Pinnacle Solutions, who deliver Registered Manager training with a 100% pass rate, alongside Ofsted fit-person preparation and ongoing mentoring from the Responsible Individual.

The successful candidate will be named on the Ofsted application and will lead the home from registration onwards, with full responsibility for the safety, wellbeing, and progress of the young people in our care. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Overall leadership of the staff team
  • Recruitment and supervision
  • Rota and shift planning
  • Safeguarding oversight
  • Behaviour management
  • Liaison with placing authorities, social workers, schools, and health professionals
  • Meeting the requirements of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and the associated Quality Standards

You will work closely with the Director and Responsible Individual to embed our policies and procedures, prepare the home for its first Ofsted inspection, and ensure each placement is matched, planned, and reviewed thoughtfully.

Qualifications:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or equivalent, or actively working towards completion
  • For Deputy Manager applicants: at least two years in a Deputy or senior residential role, with clear examples of leading shifts, safeguarding decisions, and staff supervision
  • Demonstrable experience working with children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties, ideally in a residential setting
  • A working knowledge of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards, and the Ofsted inspection framework
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge and confidence in leading safeguarding decisions
  • Proven team leadership, including supervision, performance management, and staff development
  • Ability to meet the proximity requirements of Regulation 27, living within a sensible travel distance of the home in Gillingham
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and multi-agency liaison
  • A fit-person disposition: reliable, reflective, and able to hold professional boundaries in a small home environment
  • Right to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS, or willingness to obtain one
