About The Payroll Centre and Bright
The Payroll Centre has been providing expert payroll training and qualifications for more than 25 years, supporting organisations and individuals to consistently produce compliant and accurate payrolls through on-demand expertise and professional development. At Bright, we deliver products that help accountants, payroll bureaus, and businesses across the UK and Ireland work smarter and win more. Our innovative solutions and outstanding customer experiences enable our customers to run their businesses efficiently and serve their customers brilliantly.
About This Role
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist and Tutor to join the education team. The role sits at the centre of what The Payroll Centre does — delivering high-quality payroll training, supporting learners across its qualifications programmes, and contributing to the content and thought leadership that keeps the business at the forefront of the profession. This is a home-based role with regular travel across the UK and Ireland. The right person will be a confident communicator and credible subject-matter expert who brings both technical depth and genuine enthusiasm for developing others.
What You'll Do
- Training Delivery: Deliver engaging, high-quality payroll training sessions — both virtually and face-to-face — that are informative, practical, and aligned to clear learning objectives. Use real-life scenarios and practical examples to bring payroll concepts to life for learners at different levels. Adapt delivery style and content to suit different audiences, learning styles, and motivations.
- Qualifications and Learner Support: Support and assess learners across The Payroll Centre’s qualifications programmes, including writing and marking assignments, providing constructive feedback, and offering ongoing learner support. Contribute to the design and development of training courses, learning objectives, and content. Support the Act programme through assessment of results, feedback, client consultation, and the development and adaptation of learning content.
- Thought Leadership and Member Support: Provide technical expertise and thought leadership to members, delivering value through updates, insights, events, and member meetings. Stay fully up to date with payroll legislation and industry developments, with the opportunity over time to expand into international payroll delivery. Produce written content including training materials, publications, news articles, and social media posts.
What We're Looking For
- Essential: Recent and substantial hands-on payroll experience — you are a credible subject-matter expert. Strong understanding of payroll legislation across the UK, with the ability to interpret and communicate its practical impact. Proven ability to deliver presentations and training to learners with varying experience levels and learning styles. Demonstrable experience delivering training across multiple formats: face-to-face, online, and webinars. Excellent written communication skills — able to produce training materials, publications, and member-facing content to a high standard. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines. Fully mobile and willing to travel regularly across the UK and Ireland, including overnight stays. Comfortable working alongside AI tools; curious about how technology can make you better at your job.
- Desirable: Formal knowledge of training and facilitation techniques. Experience with IPASS or equivalent Irish payroll qualifications. Understanding of payroll operations across organisations of varying sizes, including the internal and external factors that influence payroll functions.
