We are looking for a caring, organised, and enthusiastic Nursery Cook to join our busy and welcoming nursery team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for providing healthy, balanced, and nutritious meals for children, following the \’Setting the Table\’ guidance and promoting positive attitudes towards food from an early age.
About the Role
As our Nursery Cook, you will take pride in preparing freshly made meals and snacks each day, ensuring that all dietary needs and allergies are carefully managed and recorded. You will work closely with the management team and key staff to plan menus that reflect children\’s developmental needs, cultural diversity, and individual preferences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and serve daily meals and snacks in line with \’Setting the Table\’ (NHS Health Scotland) guidance and nursery food policies.
- Plan healthy, varied, and seasonal menus in consultation with management and parents.
- Maintain high standards of kitchen hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety in accordance with Environmental Health and Food Standards Scotland requirements.
- Record food temperatures, cleaning schedules, and allergy information accurately.
- Manage stock levels, ordering, and budget control efficiently.
- Support the promotion of healthy eating through engaging with staff and children during mealtimes.
- Cater for special dietary needs, allergies, and cultural preferences with care and attention.
Essential Requirements:
- Experience working in a catering or cook role, ideally within a nursery, school, or care setting.
- Knowledge and understanding of \’Setting the Table\’ guidance.
- Valid Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above).
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently.
- A caring, child-centred attitude and commitment to maintaining high standards.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of \’Food Matters\’ and \’Eating Well for Under 5s in Childcare\’ guidance.
- Previous experience planning menus for early years or school-aged children.
