We are looking for an experienced Production Maintenance Engineer with a strong mechanical background gained within a manufacturing or production environment. This role is not suitable for general building maintenance, facilities maintenance, domestic plumbing, vehicle mechanics or construction maintenance. We need someone who has maintained machinery within a factory environment.
The Role
- You will provide hands-on mechanical engineering support across production machinery and associated plant equipment.
- The role will involve troubleshooting, breakdown response, planned maintenance, root cause analysis and continuous improvement to help improve reliability, efficiency and production performance.
Duties
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance on production machinery.
- Respond to breakdowns and diagnose mechanical faults.
- Work on production equipment, conveyors, bearings, drives, shafts, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Support improvements and modifications to improve machine reliability.
- Review and develop PPMs.
- Record faults and engineering activity on the maintenance system.
- Work closely with production, process improvement and engineering colleagues.
- Assist with root cause analysis and problem-solving activity.
- Support the wider maintenance team when required.
- Carry out overtime when business needs require.
Essential Experience
- Mechanical engineering apprenticeship within a manufacturing environment.
- Many years’ experience maintaining machinery in a manufacturing or production facility.
- Strong hands-on mechanical maintenance experience.
- Experience with production machinery, conveyors, bearings, gearboxes, hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Understanding of preventative maintenance and breakdown repair.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, sketches, manuals and manufacturer specifications.
- Experience working safely with machinery, including LOTO procedures.
- Practical, flexible and hands-on approach.
Desirable Experience
- Steam boiler or ancillary plant experience.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Root cause analysis, continuous improvement or reliability improvement experience.
- Experience working with OEE or equipment performance KPIs.
- CMMS / maintenance system experience.
