About our client

Our client is a well‑established, market‑leading engineering business operating internationally across the oil and gas sector. At their request, their identity is being kept confidential at this stage. Full details will be shared with shortlisted candidates.

Opportunity

This is not a standard reporting role. Our client is looking for a commercially minded analyst who is genuinely passionate about data – someone who sees insight as a tool for making better business decisions, not just producing charts for a weekly report. You’ll be embedded in a Projects team that delivers complex, bespoke, multi‑million‑pound solutions to international clients. You’ll own the data and analytics function for that team – building dashboards, interrogating cost data and helping project managers and commercial leads make smarter decisions throughout the project lifecycle. Longer term, there is a clear path into broader business systems work across finance, HR and operations – making this an exceptional opportunity for someone with ambition to grow.

What you'll do

  • Design and maintain SQL‑based data pipelines and Power BI dashboards giving real‑time visibility of project costs, budgets and performance
  • Analyse project cost data to identify risks, trends and savings opportunities – presenting findings in a way that drives action
  • Work closely with project managers and commercial leads to understand their data needs and deliver solutions they’ll use
  • Champion the use of AI tools to automate analysis, improve data quality and streamline reporting workflows
  • Identify gaps in data capture and business process, and work with stakeholders to resolve them at source
  • Document data models and definitions to ensure consistent, trustworthy insight across the organisation

Skills & experience

Essential

  • Strong SQL – queries, joins, stored procedures
  • Power BI – report design, DAX, data modelling
  • Genuine passion for data and its commercial value
  • Clear communicator with non‑technical stakeholders
  • Analytical, cost‑conscious mindset
  • Self‑starter who thrives with autonomy

Highly desirable

  • Practical experience with AI tools in a business context
  • Systems or business analysis experience

Working arrangements

This is a hybrid role based in Aberdeen. The client offers flexible working with a blend of office and remote working. Full details on working patterns will be discussed at interview stage.
