We're proud to be working alongside a leading international oil and gas company in their search for a talented Network Engineer to join their Aberdeen-based IT team.
If you're the sort of engineer who wants real influence over how a network is built and run, not just a ticket queue, this one's worth a look. The role puts you at the heart of the company's network infrastructure, with the added breadth of supporting the server estate as a secondary System Administrator when the need arises.
What is in it for you:
- Salary up to £55,000
- Hybrid working with 3 days per week in the Aberdeen office
- Private healthcare and life insurance
- Company pension scheme
- On-site parking and gym facilities
- Career development
- The opportunity to work in attractive offices with a dynamic and passionate working environment
Your day-to-day:
- Planning and delivering robust, secure network solutions spanning LAN, WAN, wireless and VPN
- Owning the configuration and upkeep of firewalls, switches, routers and access points across the estate
- Keeping a close eye on uptime, bandwidth and latency through monitoring platforms such as SolarWinds or PRTG, and resolving bottlenecks before users notice them
- Serving as the senior escalation point for network incidents, including those affecting remote locations
- Hardening the environment through VLAN design, firewall rule management, intrusion detection and a rigorous patching regime
- Producing and maintaining clear network diagrams, IP records and configuration documentation
- Supporting the wider infrastructure when required, think Windows and Linux servers, Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, virtualisation with VMware or Hyper-V, and backup and recovery routines
- Contributing networking expertise to projects, upgrades and migrations, and delivering third-line support to the business
The person we're after:
- A seasoned network professional with a strong track record across enterprise environments
- Deep practical knowledge of routing, switching, firewall and wireless technologies
- Comfortable with monitoring tooling and well-versed in network security fundamentals
- Enough systems administration grounding to hold the fort on servers, virtualisation and backups when called upon
- Naturally proactive, someone who spots what could work better and says so
- A sharp troubleshooter with tidy documentation habits and a collaborative style
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
In return, you'll join a global business with a genuine commitment to its technology function, and the scope to put your own stamp on its network infrastructure.
