They're looking for a DevOps Engineer who lives and breathes CI pipelines, someone who takes real pride in building fast, reliable, repeatable build and test infrastructure, and who is genuinely at home on the Linux command line. This isn't a cloud-centric DevOps role: the focus is on engineering-grade delivery infrastructure supporting embedded firmware and developer tooling, not spinning up managed services. The Role
You'll be embedded within a skilled engineering function, working across a varied mix of embedded firmware and developer tooling. Your core focus will be the CI/CD estate: designing, building, and continuously improving the pipelines that take code from commit to release, build systems, automated test stages, artefact management, and the Linux-based infrastructure that underpins it all. You'll take pipelines that work and make them excellent: faster feedback loops, fewer flaky builds, better parallelisation, and rock-solid reproducibility. You'll manage and stabilise the test environments engineers depend on daily, track delivery performance through DORA metrics, ensure strong observability across the toolchain, and uphold security best practice throughout.
Version control sits at the heart of this role. You'll define and refine branching strategies, manage repository health, and help engineering teams get the most out of Git across a complex, multi-team codebase. You'll work closely with engineering teams to get under the skin of how they build, test, and deploy their software, using that insight to drive continuous improvement and accelerate the pace of development. You'll also liaise directly with customers when deployments touch their own infrastructure. It's a broad, hands-on role with real scope to shape how things are done, and the kind of position where no two days look exactly the same.
About You
A DevOps Engineer with genuinely strong, hands-on CI/CD pipeline experience, you've designed, built, and maintained pipelines from scratch on platforms such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps, and you understand what makes a pipeline fast, reliable, and maintainable at scale. Deep Linux expertise: comfortable administering, troubleshooting, and automating Linux systems day-to-day, from systemd and package management through to performance debugging and shell scripting. Expert-level version control skills with Git (Mercurial also welcome), branching strategies, merge conflict surgery, repository management, and helping teams adopt sound workflows. Write clean, reliable automation in Python, shell/Bash, or a similar scripting language. Practical experience building, managing, and orchestrating OCI containers using tools such as Docker, Podman, or LXC, primarily in the context of build and test infrastructure. A good understanding of artefact and dependency management across the delivery pipeline. Solid grasp of networking essentials including DNS, IP, firewalls, VPN setup, and day-to-day troubleshooting. Cloud experience is a bonus rather than a requirement; this role is far more about build engineering and delivery infrastructure than cloud architecture. You must hold full eligibility to work in the UK.
