Windsor Full-Time On-site

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Veterinary Surgeon with at least two years’ experience to join an established and genuinely independent practice in Windsor. This is an excellent role for a vet seeking greater clinical freedom, a supportive working environment and the opportunity to develop their skills and progress professionally.

They have been caring for animals in Windsor for more than 120 years, with additional branch surgeries in Ascot and Egham, both approximately 15 minutes away. The practice was among the first in the UK to achieve Veterinary Hospital status in the 1970s and has continued to invest in its facilities, equipment and clinical capabilities. Remaining privately owned allows the team to make independent decisions, embrace new ideas and focus on delivering the highest standards of patient care.

The successful candidate will join a progressive team of seven Veterinary Surgeons, including two certificate holders, supported by 11 nurses and an experienced reception and administrative team. Many colleagues have been with the practice for over a decade, with some exceeding 20 years’ service. This continuity has helped establish strong clinical protocols and a shared commitment to quality, while the team remains open to new approaches and developments within the profession. Colleagues value their friendly, collaborative culture and support one another both professionally and personally.

The practice boasts excellent facilities, with its main Windsor hospital housing the surgical and hospitalisation departments. A nurse is present on site 24 hours a day, allowing inpatients to remain at the hospital overnight and receive ongoing care. The team also works closely with its out-of-hours provider, with nurses collecting patients admitted overnight so they can return to Windsor for continued treatment.

The role

The position would suit a confident first-opinion vet who enjoys a varied caseload and is comfortable with consultations, routine first-opinion surgery, diagnostic investigations, dentistry, medical work-ups and inpatient care. The role will involve working across all three sites, although the majority of time will be spent at the Windsor hospital.

The practice is keen to welcome someone who is enthusiastic, motivated and committed to delivering excellent care, while also bringing fresh ideas and a willingness to contribute to the ongoing development of the team. There is no sole-charge requirement, and clinical development is actively encouraged. CPD is supported both financially and through dedicated time away from the practice, including assistance for those wishing to pursue a certificate.

Working hours are arranged over four days per week, with one weekend in five on a shared rota. Weekend duties involve consultations on Saturday and Sunday mornings, followed by on-call responsibility until 5pm. The Monday and Friday following the duty weekend are provided as days off. Standard weekday shifts begin at 8.30am, or 8am when operating, and generally finish between 5.30pm and 6.30pm. One weekday each week involves a later finish at 9pm, with a 1pm start on that day.

There is no overnight on-call commitment. Emergencies after 9pm on weekdays and 5pm at weekends are managed by the practice’s out-of-hours provider, while the on-site nursing team ensures continuity of inpatient care.

A full driving licence and access to a car are essential for travel between branches, with business mileage reimbursed. Free parking is available at all sites.

Salary and benefits

The salary is negotiable according to experience, broadly ranging from £45,000 to £65,000.

  • 27 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, a four-day working week, pension provision and payment of RCVS and BSAVA subscriptions.
  • CPD funding and certificate progression are fully supported, alongside private medical insurance and an additional staff benefits plan contributing towards eye tests, therapies and dental treatment.
  • Employees can also benefit from a staff pet scheme, reimbursed business mileage and free parking.

Location

Based in a semi-rural setting close to the attractive town of Windsor, the practice offers easy access to green spaces and outdoor activities, while remaining conveniently connected to London and Heathrow Airport.

For a Veterinary Surgeon looking to join a long-established independent practice where clinical standards, teamwork and professional development genuinely matter, this offers an excellent opportunity to take the next step in their career.
