This South Yorkshire small animal Hospital is looking to expand its referral team with an experienced surgical vet. The successful candidate will support the hospital's growing referral caseload across both soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery. Applications are welcomed from candidates with experience in either discipline, as well as those with expertise across both areas. The position would suit an Advanced Practitioner or an experienced Certificate holder with a strong interest in developing their referral-level surgical work. Diplomates and specialist surgeons are also encouraged to apply, with appropriate remuneration available for candidates at this level.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Referral Veterinary Surgeon will collaborate closely with colleagues working across ECC, internal medicine, diagnostic imaging and first-opinion practice. The varied caseload offers exposure to complex surgical cases within an environment that encourages knowledge sharing, clinical development and innovation.
The Hospital provides a strong clinical setting for referral work, with a 24/7 hospital and emergency service, dedicated referral facilities, modern surgical theatres and inpatient and intensive care wards. The surgical team is supported by experienced nursing and support staff.
The role will involve managing a varied referral caseload and carrying out advanced surgical procedures while maintaining high standards of patient care. The successful surgeon will also support referring veterinary practices, contribute to clinical governance and evidence-based medicine, and provide mentorship and guidance to veterinary colleagues. An important part of the position will be helping to shape and further develop the growing surgical referral services.
Candidates should hold MRCVS status and be eligible to work in the UK, with either Advanced Practitioner status or substantial experience working at referral level. Experience in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery is sought, including experience with procedures such as TPLO. Strong communication and teamwork skills are important, together with a collaborative approach and a genuine interest in improving access to affordable referral care.
The position offers a 40-hour working week across four days, with no weekend work, providing a favourable balance between clinical responsibility and time away from the hospital.
The benefits package includes six weeks' holiday including bank holidays, funded CPD and CPD leave, and payment of RCVS, VDS and BVA memberships. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to influence and develop the hospital's expanding referral services.
