This established practice in Nottingham is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join its friendly and welcoming team on a fixed-term maternity cover contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a vet looking to work within an established independently run practice where patient care, clinical standards and enjoying work are all equally important.
The practice has built a strong reputation for providing high-quality care while maintaining a relaxed and supportive working environment. The team believes that enjoying work is an important part of delivering the best possible service to both clients and their pets, and regularly gets together for social events as well as enjoying drinks and snacks in the practice.
The caseload is varied and interesting, with several more complex cases seen each day. These cases form an important part of the practice's work, with dedicated time built into the diary for follow-ups, reporting results, caring for inpatients and carrying out further investigations. Routine operations are kept to a smaller proportion of the workload, alongside 15-minute consultations with dedicated administration time included in the schedule.
The successful candidate will join a close-knit team consisting of three Veterinary Surgeons, five Nurses, a Reception team and a Practice Manager. The Practice Owner has more than 24 years of experience and provides a wealth of clinical and surgical knowledge within the team. The practice is well equipped with digital and dental X-ray, ultrasound, ECG, blood pressure monitoring, ultrasonic dental equipment, suction, cautery, Class 4 laser therapy, infusion pumps and a comprehensive in-house laboratory. The purpose-built premises are also fully air-conditioned.
The role would suit a Veterinary Surgeon with a few years of small animal experience who is confident managing both consultations and routine surgery. A particular surgical interest or bias would be welcomed, although the team is open to applicants with a range of clinical interests. Applicants must be RCVS registered and have excellent communication skills, a strong commitment to patient care and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
The practice can offer flexibility around full-time or part-time working, with an ideal commitment of three or four days per week. Standard hours are 8:30am to 6pm, although the role is paid until 6:30pm. There is a requirement to participate in a 1:3 Saturday morning rota, working from 8:30am to 12pm. Importantly, there are no out-of-hours duties or Bank Holiday shifts.
For the right person, there may also be the longer-term possibility of progressing into a full time or partner opportunity. The position offers a salary of up to £65,000 FTE depending on experience, along with 5.6 weeks' holiday, private health insurance, a contributory pension scheme and paid RCVS, BVA and VDS memberships. A generous CPD allowance is available, with additional support towards certificate training, alongside opportunities for further career development within the practice.
