Overview

An independent veterinary practice with over 100 years of history is looking for a new graduate mixed animal veterinary surgeon to join their fantastic team. They offer a friendly and supportive work environment, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality, modern medicine and surgery. Based in the heart of North East England, ideally located with easy access to transport links, city life, countryside, and the coast.

Responsibilities

  • Caseload distribution: approximately 85% small animals, 10% equine, and 5% farm work (a small animal-only role is also available).
  • On-call duties: one night per week, always with support from another vet.
  • On-call rotation: one full weekend every six, with the following week free of night on call and either Friday or Monday off for a long weekend.
  • Saturday morning rota: one in three, with one of those shifts forming part of the full weekend on call.
  • Bank holiday cover is shared equally among the team.

Benefits and Support

  • Enrollment in the Veterinary Graduate Development Programme (VetGDP).
  • Starting salary: £34,500 for a four-day week or £39,000 for a five-day week.
  • After a weeknight on call (Mon–Thu), you’ll have the following afternoon off.
  • Minimum of six weeks of paid annual leave, with your birthday off after completing a successful six-month probation.
  • Profit-sharing scheme with a 12-month salary review and annual salary reviews thereafter.
  • No sole-charge on-call work.
  • RCVS and VDS membership fees covered; generous CPD allowance with regular in-house sessions.
  • Pension, BUPA healthcare, accommodation and/or a company car available (starting salary adjusted if either is provided).
  • Staff discount on pet treatments after probation; full sickness pay after 12 months.
  • Visa sponsorship available for eligible candidates under the lower salary threshold.
