Overview ECC Night Veterinary Surgeon – Somerset. This well established practice is looking for an enthusiastic Emergency and Critical Care Night Vet to join a dedicated Out-of-Hours service, providing weekend and holiday cover at a highly regarded First Opinion and Small Animal Hospital in Somerset. Located in the historic market town of Bridgwater, this hospital offers the perfect balance of rural charm and accessibility. The beautiful Somerset coast is just a short drive away, and Bristol's vibrant city life can be reached in under an hour — with Glastonbury practically on your doorstep.
You'll be joining a progressive Centre of Excellence, working alongside a team that combines innovation with compassion. The hospital is proud to be accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as a Small Animal Hospital — the highest level of accreditation available and a distinction achieved by only a small percentage of veterinary practices across the UK.
In this role, you'll be supported by an experienced night nurse, a twilight phone triage nurse, and a twilight animal care assistant, with occasional assistance from an additional twilight vet. You'll work closely with this dedicated night team to deliver exceptional care to both emergency and hospitalised patients, ensuring the highest clinical standards are maintained at all times.
The salary is up to £70,000 pro rata, depending on experience, along with 6.6 weeks of paid holiday including bank holidays. You'll have an annual CPD allowance of £1,750 and access to wellbeing benefits through Health Shield, which covers a wide range of health and wellness treatments. Professional memberships including RCVS and two additional subscriptions are fully funded, and VDS cover is provided. Responsibilities
- Deliver emergency and critical care to night-time patients and hospitalised cases, maintaining the highest clinical standards.
- Collaborate with the night team, including a night nurse, twilight phone triage nurse, twilight animal care assistant, and occasional twilight vet support.
- Participate in a rota typically involving Friday and Saturday nights from 7pm until 8.30am, on a two-week-on, two-week-off pattern, with options for additional night shifts for holiday cover. Hours and days can be discussed to fit you and the team.
