Lead Veterinarian – Brand New Hospital – Melton District, Leicestershire

My clients are looking for an accomplished and inspiring Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join their brand new hospital opening next spring.

You’ll work alongside a Clinical Director to uphold clinical excellence, nurture team development, and shape the continued success of this thriving small animal practice.

This is an exceptional opportunity to take a leading role in an exciting new chapter, as they prepare to move into a new purpose‑built, state‑of‑the‑art hospital.

You’ll have the rare chance to help design systems, influence culture, and establish a truly progressive veterinary environment from the very beginning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strong clinical and operational leadership, make key decisions that elevate patient care, and foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the hospital’s day‑to‑day caseload and operations and support the smooth transition into the new premises.
  • Mentor colleagues, including graduates, and contribute strategically as part of the senior leadership team.
  • Act as a key representative of values and clinical standards and work closely with the Practice Manager to ensure smooth operations, support team wellbeing, and uphold the culture of professionalism and kindness.

Qualifications

  • Postgraduate certificate, ideally with a focus on internal medicine or imaging.
  • Previous leadership experience is essential; the team actively supports further qualification.
  • Advanced Practitioners in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery or equivalent advanced certificates are advantageous.
  • Working Hours

Four‑day week, 8:00 am–6:00 pm or 8:30 am–6:30 pm, with a 1‑in‑5 weekend rota and protected leadership time.

No on‑call requirement; weekend and bank holiday shifts are shared evenly across the team.
