Job Overview

My independent clients are seeking a veterinary nurse to join them as the practice grows. The role centres on delivering and maintaining exceptional standards of nursing care and professional performance. Working closely with Veterinary Surgeons, the position supports the delivery of best clinical practice while contributing to the effective day‑to‑day operation of the practice. Responsibilities include adhering to the professional standards set by the RCVS, maintaining up‑to‑date registration, and carrying out all duties with a high level of competence and professionalism. The role also involves supporting the Nurse Management Team and contributing to the development and efficiency of the wider nursing function.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaboration and communication with veterinary surgeons, nursing colleagues, and support staff to ensure seamless patient care.
• Assisting with clinical procedures in line with professional guidelines, maintaining accurate patient records, and dispensing medications appropriately.
• Ensuring effective communication with clients throughout their pet’s care and conducting nurse consultations, advising clients on general pet healthcare.
• Supporting reception duties when required, including patient admissions, discharges, and appointment coordination.
• Supporting nursing assistants and student veterinary nurses, with opportunities to take on clinical coaching responsibilities.
• Maintaining high standards of hygiene, stock control, and organisation across practice, and ensuring all equipment and clinical areas are properly managed.
• Operating across two sites, providing inpatient and surgical nursing, assisting with treatments, conducting nurse clinics, and supporting reception tasks.
• Providing flexibility for short‑notice changes to work location and assisting with transport of patients between sites where necessary.
• Participating in a shared rota for waking night shifts to support emergency and inpatient care, and working weekend shifts on a rotational basis.

Working Hours

Structured across a rotating shift pattern – early, daytime, evening, and late shifts – with night shift participation and rotational weekend work. Time off is provided to balance these commitments.

Qualifications & Personal Attributes

• Recognised veterinary nursing qualification, such as a Level 3 diploma, advanced apprenticeship, or degree.
